Empowering black youth through work
Adams & Adams is committed to upholding our country’s transformation principles and legislation in the workplace. We recognise the importance of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) in redressing the legacy of inequality in South Africa and advancing diversity and inclusion in society.
To this end, we are investing in nurturing young black talent through numerous initiatives. One of which is the Youth Employment Services (YES) programme, which has been set up to advance the purpose of both the Skills Development Act, and Employment Equity Act. This government-supported project provides a 12-month placement in an office environment for eligible black South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35.
This year, Adams & Adams has sponsored 23 candidates in the YES programme. These learners have been placed in new jobs across various departments inside the firm or at external companies at the cost of firm. We provide them with a monthly stipend, as well as the tools needed to perform successfully in their roles and complete the programme’s modules. We also assign a supervisor to guide and support these learners in their new positions.
Through meaningful skills development and access to mentorship and real-life work experience, these learners will have the confidence and ability to make a valuable contribution to not only the profession but our country’s future.
