    Alexis is a leading expert on the interface between competition law and intellectual property in South Africa, having dealt with the competition law aspects of the enforceability of intellectual property rights to the Supreme Court of Appeals in South Africa. He has represented clients both before the South African Competition Commission and Competition Tribunal.

    Alicia Kabini is a Partner in the trade mark enforcement department. She specialises in trade mark litigation, including domain name disputes, company name objections, ASA disputes and passing off matters. She also has experience in anti-counterfeiting matters.

  • Alicia van der Walt (née Castleman)

    Amina is an admitted attorney, notary public and conveyancer as well as a qualified trade mark practitioner. She is a member of the Legal Practice Council and a fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law.

    Andre Visser is a partner and Head of the Corporate and Commercial Department at Adams & Adams. With over 25 years of post-qualification experience, he has extensive corporate and commercial knowledge that covers mergers & acquisitions, cross-border transactions and all legal aspects of investing into South Africa.

  • Colin MacKenzie

    Colin MacKenzie’s involvement with intellectual property law spans three decades. Colin qualified as a mechanical engineer in 1982 and worked for a company specialising in the design and manufacture of military equipment.

  • Dale Healy

    Dale Healy is a partner in the firm’s Trade Mark Litigation section. He was admitted as an attorney in 2005 and became a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property law in the same year.

  • Danie Dohmen

    Danie Dohmen is a partner at Adams & Adams in the patent litigation section. He specialises in patent, design, plant breeder’s rights and intellectual property agreement litigation, commercialisation and opinion work.     David is a partner in the CPL department with over 21 years’ experience. His specialities lie in matrimonial disputes and family law, personal injury law, medical negligence actions and third party claims.

  • Debbie Marriott

    Debbie Marriott is a Partner in the Trade Mark Litigation department, and is admitted as a Solicitor in the UK in addition to being a South African Attorney.

  • Dieter Welthagen

    Dieter is a partner in the Africa Section of the Patent Department, which is responsible for the filing and the prosecution of national patent and design applications in African countries (other than South Africa) and of regional patent and design applications at ARIPO and OAPI, for non-South African clients.

  • Eugene Honey

    Eugene Honey has specialized in Trade Marks and Copyright matters, as well as Commercial IP matters including Franchising and Licensing for approximately 25 years.

  • Gérard du Plessis

    Gérard du Plessis is a senior partner of the firm and has served as the Chairman of Adams & Adams from 2013 to date. Prior to that he also served for a number of years as Trade Mark Department Co-Chairman(litigation).

  • Godfrey Budeli

    Godfrey Budeli is one of the partners in Trade Mark Litigation section with 14 years’ post admission experience and is currently heading up the Anti-Counterfeiting team.

  • Grégor Wolter

    Grégor leads a large team whose practice areas cover a wide range of commercial litigation and dispute resolution legal facets (including resolving or litigating on contractual and commercial disputes, delictual and enrichment claims, handling shareholder and director disputes, enforcement of director duties and director liabilities, enforcing and defending restraint of trade covenants and unfair competition – in respect of which Grégor has successfully launched and executed a number of Anton Pillar applications).

  • Jac Marais

    Jac is a litigation specialist and represents public and private (local and international) clients in high end litigation in the High Court, Appeal Court, and Constitutional Court and specialist tribunals.

  • James Davies

    James is a patent attorney with an electronic and computer background, and with a genuine interest in these things and all things technological. James works in the patent department, mainly assisting local clients in filing and prosecution patent and design applications in South Africa and indeed all over the world.

  • Jan-Harm Swanepoel

    Jan-Harm is a Senior Associate in the Anti-Counterfeiting Department. He obtained his LLB from the University of Johannesburg, completed his articles and joined the Department of Justice as a public prosecutor in 2007.

  • Jani Cronjé

    Jani Cronjé is a partner in the firm’s Trade Mark Litigation department. She specialises in trade mark oppositions and cancellations, trade mark infringement and passing-off disputes, domain name complaints, ASA complaints and copyright infringement matters.

  • Janice Galvad

    Janice Galvad is a Partner in and the Chairperson of the Patent Department at Adams & Adams. She has been a Partner at the firm since 2004.

  • Jean-Paul Rudd

    Jean-Paul specialises in civil litigation with special emphasis on personal injury related matters, which includes Road Accident Fund, medical negligence, slip and fall and wrongful arrest claims, professional indemnity matters, and insurance related matters.

  • Jenny Pienaar

    Jenny is a partner in the Adams & Adams Trade mark Department. With 19 years of post-qualification experience, Thompson advises some of the world’s top multi-national organisations on the protection and enforcement of their brands and other intellectual property in Africa.

  • Kim Rampersadh

    Kim has garnered experience advising clients on a wide range of IP enforcement issues in South Africa and abroad. Her focus includes trade mark and copyright litigation, passing-off matters, company name objections, domain name disputes and advising on advertising law.

  • Lauren Ross

    Lauren has practical experience in trade mark prosecution matters including conducting trade mark clearance, availability, registrability and infringement searches, all aspects of trade mark registration and portfolio management. Lauren has 12 years of post qualification experience and the focus of her work is in South Africa and Africa.

  • Leander Opperman

    Leander has 21 years’ post-qualification experience and his practice areas include commercial litigation and dispute resolution with special focus on specialised recoveries (most of his clients in this regard are banks), Construction Law (he advises developers and employers) and Insolvency and Company Law (here he acts for corporate entities and liquidators/receivers/trustees as well as creditors).

    Lita was admitted as attorney in 2010. She holds an LLB degree from University of Western Cape. Her areas of practice include brand enforcement and trade mark prosecution including, infringement, and opposition proceedings, domain name disputes, company and close corporation name objections, trade mark searches, filings, assignments. She also has experience in anti-counterfeiting.

    Louis van der Walt is a partner in, and past Chairman of, the Patent Department of Adams & Adams and advises clients in relation to the preparation and filing of patent applications, registered design applications and plant breeders’ rights.

  • Lucy Signorelli

    Lucy Signorelli is a partner in the firm’s Trade Mark Prosecution department specialising in recordals across the world. She also has extensive experience in trade mark litigation, including copyright, trade mark, unlawful competition and passing off issues, and was one of the partners heading up the Anti-Counterfeiting team from 2010 to 2018.

  • Mandy Swanepoel

    Mandy has extensive experience in trade mark, copyright and advertising litigation, having been in practice with Adams & Adams for over 10 years. Along with infringement, unlawful competition and passing off matters, she also handles domain name disputes and company name objection.

  • Mariëtte du Plessis

    Mariëtte du Plessis is currently a senior partner in the Trade Mark Litigation section of the Trade Marks Department. She has been a partner of Adams & Adams since 1997 and is an experienced top-tier ranked IP attorney with 30 years of experience in IP.

  • Megan Moerdijk

    Megan Moerdijk, a partner in the trade mark prosecution group, is an experienced trade mark practitioner with a specialisation in African trade mark searching, filing and prosecution. 

  • Nelia Hickman

    Nelia Hickman holds BA LLB-degrees from Stellenbosch University and an Honours through UNISA. After a spell in general law and trade mark litigation, Nelia has specialized in trade mark prosecution work for over two decades.

  • Nicky Garnett

    Nicky Garnett is the Head of the Africa Patents of the Patent Department, a position she has held since 2008. Nicky is originally from Zimbabwe and moved to South Africa in 2008.

  • Nicolette Biggar

    Nicolette Biggar is a Partner in the Trade Mark prosecution department in Pretoria. The focus of her practice is on Trade Mark protection (from application to registration) in Africa but she advises clients on protection outside of Africa as well.

  • Nicolette Koch

    Nicolette Koch is a partner in the Commercial, Property and Litigation department of Adams & Adams. She has 13 years experience acting on behalf of clients in personal injury claims, inclusive of third party claims against the Road Accident Fund, medical negligence, assault, actions of animals, pothole cases, civil actions against the state and professional negligence actions against legal professionals, doctors and hospitals.

    Nishan Singh is a qualified attorney and trade mark practitioner, who has been a partner of the firm since March 2012. Nishan advises some of the world’s top multi-national organisations on the protection and enforcement of their brands and related intellectual property in Africa.

  • Nishi Chetty

    Nishi is a Partner in the Trade mark Department. She practices at the Durban office and is one of the Managing Partners. Nishi served for seven years on the firm’s Management Committee as Branch Office Chairperson.

  • Nolwazi Gcaba

    Nolwazi has twenty one years post qualification experience in the field of trade mark law.  She has in the past focused in trade marks and copyright litigation including passing-off and unlawful competition. She advised clients from divergent industries including from the fashion and luxury goods, hospitality, fast moving consumer goods, sports, automotive, to name but a few.

  • Nondumiso Msimang

    Nondumiso Msimang is a Partner in the Trade Mark Prosecution department. Under the leadership of a Senior Partner, Ms Msimang advises clients from a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, automotive, banking, consumer products, telecommunications, food and beverage, clothing, petroleum oil and paint industries.

  • Nthabisheng Phaswana

    Nthabisheng is a partner in the Africa Patent Department. She holds LLB and LLM (Mercantile Law) from the University of Pretoria. She is an admitted attorney with 11 years post article experience.

  • Philip Pla

    Philip Pla is a partner in the patent department in the firm’s Cape Town office.

  • Pieter Visagie

    Pieter is a registered patent attorney. His practice is focused on the drafting of patent specifications and the prosecution of patent applications both locally and abroad. In this respect, Pieter has had extensive exposure to the prosecution practices of the patent offices of most major foreign jurisdictions, including the United States Patent Office, the European Patent Office, the Chinese Patent Office, the Japanese Patent Office, the Australian Patent Office, etc.

  • Roelof Grové

    Roelof Grove is a partner of Adams & Adams and head of the Property Department.  He obtained his B.Iur and LLB degrees from University of the Free State and read for his LLM through Unisa. He has 18 years’ experience as an attorney, conveyancer and notary.

  • Russell Bagnall

    Russell Bagnall has advised clients on several contentious issues involving pharmaceutical disputes between multinational and generic companies. He also advises pharmaceutical clients on a wide range of issues, including licence and distribution agreements, co-promotion agreements and regulatory issues.

  • Sajidha Gamieldien

    Sajidha is a partner in Adams & Adams’s Trade Mark Department.  She graduated with a BA(Hons) LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2007 and has 8 years’ post qualification experience.
