Ivory Coast in top 3 of number of OAPI filings
On 13 December 2022, the Director General of the Ivorian Intellectual Property Office (OIPI), Assandé Koffi Paul, announced that the Ivory Coast was in the top 3 in terms of the number of IP filings at OAPI. The announcement was made in Abidjan-Plateau, during the weekly press conference “Tout Savoir sur” of the Center for Information and Government Communication (CICG). OIPI is working on different areas of intervention to position intellectual property as a decisive lever in the policy aimed at the “structural transformation of the economy”. The majority of registered intellectual property in Ivory Coast is for Trademarks. From 2017 to 2021 about 600 trademarks were registered annually. Ivory coast currently ranks about 112th out of 131 countries, globally, in terms of innovation and, in Sub-Saharan Africa, it ranks 12th out of 26 countries.
