Aslam Patel is an attorney in Adams and Adams employment and labour law department. He specialises in litigious and non-litigious general, individual and collective employment and labour matters.
Aslam has acted for local and multinational clients and clients across the public and private sectors in a variety of industries, including, inter alia, the mining, steel, transport, nuclear and energy, banking, finance, ratings, utility, recruitment, software, manufacturing, retail, pension funds, sanitation, pharmaceuticals, education, skills and training and nutrition industries. Aslam has also acted for foreign embassies.
His experience includes advising clients on the full spectrum of employment, labour and HR issues, including inter alia, the management of discipline, retrenchment and poor work performance procedures termination of executive employees, the transfer and restructuring of businesses, restraints of trade and employee related immigration issues, as well as assisting in the prosecution and running of disciplinary inquiries; Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and bargaining council matters, and employment and labour law litigation in the South African Labour Court, High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal. Aslam is also experienced in the drafting and reviewing of employment contracts, workplace policies and employee hand books.
Prior to joining Adams and Adams, Aslam was an employment and labour law attorney at a top tier law firm. He previously also served as a judge’s legal associate and registrar at the office of the Chief Justice based at the Johannesburg and Pretoria High Courts, conducting comprehensive research on both South African and international law. At university, Aslam was awarded Golden Key and Dean’s list status.
