Towards the end of August 2023, Eugene Honey, Lebo Mosala and Menzi Maboyi travelled to Gaborone to visit our Associate Office and the Companies and Intellectual Property Agency (CIPA). With our Associate Office, discussions centred around operational and strategic issues, and the provision of better service to clients. At CIPA, we warmly welcomed by the IP Registrar and Acting Registrar General, Mr Timothy Moalusi, and two of the Trade Mark Examiners, Ms Keorutwe Baitsemi and Ms Dimpho Bonolo. We discussed a wide range of topics touching on operational aspects, including the progress made with the online platform and the support provided by WIPO. We also discussed the backlog being experienced in opposition and invalidation hearings and CIPA’s plans to address this issue. We were encouraged with the developments at CIPA and its quest to be fully digitised.
