Draft bill establishing Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority approved

Egyptian Cabinet have approved a bill to establish the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority, the first entity of its kind in the country. The Authority will be responsible for regulating and protecting intellectual property rights in the country in accordance with Egypt’s international commitments, while balancing these rights with its social, economic and cultural needs.

The move comes as a result of one of the goals of the National Strategy for Intellectual Property (2022-2027) which was launched by the President in September last year. The Authority will officially operate in 2024.
