ZAMBIA – Appointment of Registrar CEO – Board of Patents and Companies Registration Agency

With effect of 1st August 2023, Mr. Benson Mpalo was appointed as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Board of the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (“PACRA”) in Zambia.

Mr. Mpalo joins PACRA as a legal practitioner and Advocate of the Superior Courts of Zambia with excess of fifteen (15) years of experience and is considered an expert in relation to intellectual property law in Zambia. Mr. Mpalo has previously served as a Deputy Registrar of Intellectual Property at PACRA, a position which he has held for the last eight (8) years, and previously worked as a Senior State Advocate in the National Prosecutions Authority.

Mr. Mpalo holds various degrees including a Master’s in Intellectual Property and Competition Law from the Munich Intellectual Property Law Centre in Germany and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Business Administration through the Unicaf University and the university of East London.

In his new role, Mr. Mpalo will be responsible for PACRA’s mandate to deliver business and intellectual property registrations in order to foster entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity in Zambia.
