Drafting committee for Trade Mark Practice Directions

The Nigerian Trade Marks Registry has constituted a five-person drafting committee, in collaboration with various stakeholders, to work towards preparing a long-awaited, draft practice directive for opposition proceedings. In addition to the drafting committee, there is a Nigerian board of advisors and an international board of advisors which will ensure that the draft practice direction is in line with international best practices before being approved by the Minister and published in the Government Gazette.  Adams & Adams partner, Mariëtte du Plessis, has been appointed to the international board of advisors.

The drafting committee recently held its inaugural meeting and now has three months to submit a draft to the Registry for consideration and approval.
